Welcome to the American / Japanese & Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate & Kobudo Federation

Congratulations on your decision to pursue a career in Goju-Ryu Karate and Kobudo.

The American / Japanese & Okinawan Karate & Kobudo Federation was formed in 2000 with three decades in the making. Our wish for students and members of this Federation Family is that they will not only grow in their Goju-Ryu Karate and Kobudo technique, but also in their personal spiritual lives.  We are seeking to develop the body in conjunction with the mind and spirit.  When one has good physical health, mental clarity and personal happiness you can be of benefit to your family, your country, and the world around you.

Goju-Ryu Karate has great practical benefits and is a martial art that provides a lifetime of fitness (body health), confidence, and satisfaction.  In time you will learn the Goju-Ryu Karate and Kobudo techniques to make you, as is known in karate circles, "a fine technician".

Following in the tradition of Gogen Yamaguchi we believe that Goju means that we perform karate (empty hand) "Hard and Soft".  "Soft" while holding or moving into position, and "Hard" when we strike a blow or block.  Goju provides the alternate use of relaxation and application of power.  Relaxing to clear the mind, analyze the aggressor or opponent, and power to counter any of the opponent's moves.

Kobudo is the study of weaponry (extension of the empty hand).  Although it is part this Goju-Ryu system it is studied as a separate art with separate certification.  Weapons studied and performed in this Federation are:

Traditional -  Bo, Jo, Or, Kama, Nunchaku, Tonfa, Sai, Sword, Butter Fly Knives, Deer Horne Knives, Cane, Kubaton, Fans, and Two Man Bo Kata.

Open (for competition) -  Bo, Kama, Nunchaku, Tonfa (Art of the "Pure Warrior" Sports Tonfa), and Sword.

Note: Traditional Weaponry can also be used in competition.

Through the American / Japanese & Okinawan Karate & Kobudo Federation, practitioners can obtain certification, progress through the Karate ranks, and attend national Karate and martial arts seminars.  Individuals can obtain Karate certification and attend the world's best events.

When you dedicate yourself to the study of Goju-Ryu Karate and Kobudo, you reap the great physical, spiritual and mental benefits that are part of its nature.

Sincerely,

Grandmaster Danny T. Zaino - Executive Director
